Cosmetic Dentistry Procedures Used to Replace Missing Teeth

Cosmetic dentistry has grown in popularity over time as it is now offering people a way to improve and enhance their teeth. There are a number of different cosmetic procedures that one can consider to ensure that their smile is perfect.

Cosmetic dentistry can be especially helpful for people who have missing teeth. While some missing teeth can be detrimental to one’s health, not all are. But, aside from the health aspect of missing teeth, some people are self-conscious about them. With the help of cosmetic dentistry, people can replace their teeth easily.

Read more in this article as we discuss a few replacement tooth options that a cosmetic dentist can provide to someone who has a tooth or multiple teeth missing.

Cosmetic dental procedures for replacing missing teeth

Dental bridges

A cosmetic dentist can use a dental bridge to cover the empty space where a missing tooth is. There are three different types of dental bridges that can be used: cantilever, traditional and bonded. Bridges are anchored by the teeth that are surrounding the missing space and they may also work with an artificial tooth in order to replace the missing tooth.

Cantilever bridges are only secured by one tooth and they are typically used for teeth that don’t have a lot of stress on them, such as front teeth. Bonded bridges work in conjunction with a metal framework, providing a wing to bridge the gap. And, traditional bridges are used when there are healthy teeth on both sides of the gap. A dental crown is then placed and the bridge keeps it in place.

Dentures – full and partial

People that have a missing tooth or multiple teeth may often be recommended dentures. Cosmetic dentists work with dentures to help a person who has missing teeth. These dental appliances will be carefully created in a dental lab after a cosmetic dentist takes impressions of the patient’s mouth.

Partial dentures are used when a person still has some remaining teeth left, and they will be anchored to those remaining teeth. Full dentures are used when a person has no teeth remaining and they will completely replace all of the teeth, thus allowing for a cosmetic dental transformation.

Dental implants

Cosmetic dentistry has begun to use dental implants as a way to help a person restore or replace teeth that are missing or going through severe decay. These tiny surgical components are placed within a person’s jawbone and over time, they naturally fuse with the jaw. Once bonded, an artificial tooth is used to act as the tooth that is missing.

While missing teeth can sometimes be harmful to the health, that isn’t always the case. However, this isn’t to say that a person wants to have missing teeth for life as it can put a dent in one’s confidence. And, that is where cosmetic dentistry comes into play. With the help of cosmetic dentists, a person can be well on their way to tooth replacement.
