Visit a Cosmetic Dentist for Your Gum Health

Cosmetic DentistAs a cosmetic dentist office, GK Dental PC has spent many years honing skills in dentistry while maintaining a focus on the appearance of a patient's teeth and gums to benefit a patient's overall health. We not only care about how well your teeth work or how healthy they are, but we also care about the appearance. Given this focus on the esthetics of the teeth, the world of a cosmetic dentist has become far better known to the general public. The procedures that we have done for years are now household names.

Cosmetic Dentistry Treatments

Other procedures that we do may not be as glamorous but are equally well known. Some of these procedures include replacing lost teeth with dental implants, dentures, and bridges. We can also fix chipped, cracked, and broken teeth with dental veneers or dental crowns. Perhaps the most well-known of all is braces or aligners to straighten crooked or misaligned teeth. There are some additional procedures that we do as well, which are not quite as well-known but can have a tremendous impact on the smile and overall health of your teeth and gums.

As a cosmetic dentist, we are responsible for how the mouth looks, and the gums can play a pivotal role in making or breaking one's smile. Often time's people who have a gum disease find that their gums are separating from the teeth. This situation leads to the formation of deep pockets in the gums. These pockets have two negative effects.

The negative effects of pockets in the gums

First, the gums will look bad. Second, these pockets allow plaque to build up and are extremely difficult to clean. The buildup of plaque can create conditions ripe for a bacterial infection. Patients can receive a treatment to help treat the pockets in the gums. Patients will not need to worry since the procedure requires anesthetic to numb the gums and prevent the patient from feeling any pain.

After carefully removing the excess and loose gum tissue, patients will not feel pain thanks to the anesthetic. Some cosmetic dentists use laser or radiosurgery to perform this process. Finally, the cosmetic dentist will cover the gums with a putty so that they have an opportunity to heal properly. A cosmetic dentist will make sure to contour the gums so they do not lose their shape following the process.

Gum contouring may be part of this procedure. The two main reasons why people receive a gum contouring is because the gums are too long or too short. Long gums can result in a gummy smile while short gums can expose the gum or cause your teeth appear too big. Either one of these is easy to fix with gum contouring. As a cosmetic dentist, we can use procedures to improve the appearance and health of your gums. For more information, call us at (617) 826-6075 and schedule a consultation.
