The Process of Placing Dental Veneers in Everett

As a provider of dental veneers in Everett, we use them to correct a wide range of dental challenges. From fixing minor issues like a chipped tooth to correcting spacing due to misaligned teeth, this tool has given us the ability to make corrections and give you back an amazing smile. Veneers are made of a wafer-thin strip of porcelain which is adhered to the tooth itself. In an unattached form, veneers are extremely brittle and can break very easily. The adhering process, using dental cement, causes the veneers to have the strength and durability to withstand the daily rigors of a normal tooth. Once the dental veneer is attached and bonded, it is almost as strong as a naturally occurring tooth would be.Dental veneers act to replace the enamel on a tooth and bonding it gives them strength.  Simultaneously, we will work to make sure that the veneer looks exactly like the teeth around it. There are a number of steps that will have to be taken to ensure that the dental veneer fits properly, is the right color and shade, and that for all intents and purposes it looks, acts, and feels like you never had a replacement in the first place. To do this, you will need at least two visits to our office. The first visit is preparatory, getting your tooth or teeth ready for a dental veneer to be placed, and the second visit is to actually place the dental veneer.Preparing your tooth. On your first visit to get dental veneers in Everett, we will take an impression of the tooth. This is done using impression putty, which is used to make a mold that is sent to the dental lab in order to create the right size veneer. Next, we will take careful notes and match a shade card to your surrounding teeth so that the veneer matches the color and shade of the teeth around it. If all of your visible teeth are being restored with a veneer, this is unnecessary, and you can simply select the shade of white that you are comfortable with. During this appointment, the majority of the time will be spent trimming the enamel on the tooth where the veneer will be placed. This is done so that the dental veneer fits perfectly over the tooth. Usually we will trim a small amount of the enamel, typically between 0.5 and 0.7 millimeters, but in some cases more trimming may be required. A temporary veneer will be placed onto your tooth in order to protect it prior to the final version being bonded in place.Placing the veneers. The second visit takes place after the dental veneers have been made, and you are ready for a fitting. This visit will involve a lot of adjustments, as we make sure that the veneer fits your mouth correctly. As a result, we will place the dental veneer, check your bite, remove it and trim it, and replace it several times until the fit is exact and has no effect on your bite. Once we are satisfied that the dental veneer fits perfectly, it can be cemented into place. If you have further questions about getting dental veneers in Everett, we invite you to call and schedule a consultation.
